Tungnath Temple is the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 metres, one of the five Panch Kedar temples of Uttarakhand, making it one of the top attractions in Chopta and a key highlight of Chopta tourism. Built by the Pandavas in the Mahabharata, it is a small stone structure with a pagoda style roof, reached by a 3.5 km stone paved climb from Chopta, making it one of the most popular things to do in Chopta and an important part of Chopta sightseeing. The temple is closed in winter from November to April when the deity is moved to Mukunath for worship, making summer and autumn the best time to visit Chopta for this trek.
