About

Lohagarh Fort, meaning “Iron Fort,” is a massive 18th-century mud-and-stone fortress located in central Bharatpur. It is a major highlight in any Bharatpur travel guide because it was never conquered despite repeated British sieges. Inside the fort are three palaces, Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, and Kothi Khas, along with a small state museum and the Kamra Khas armoury. The complex also includes two defensive towers built to commemorate victories over the British. Its earth-filled walls were engineered to absorb cannon fire, allowing the structure to withstand attacks without collapsing, making it one of the top attractions for history enthusiasts exploring Bharatpur tourism.
