Bhandardara

Bhandardara is a destination in the scenic Bhandardara valley of Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district at 750 metres in the Sahyadris, 180 kilometres from Mumbai. The area is defined by the 1926 Wilson Dam, Asia's oldest stone gravity dam on the Pravara river. This historic Bhandardara dam creates the beautiful Bhandardara lake, also known as Lake Arthur. Around the lake rise some of the highest peaks in Maharashtra: Kalsubai (1,646 m), Ratangad (1,297 m), and Harishchandragad (1,422 m), making this a popular trekking base. The 50-metre Randha Falls is a stunning Bhandardara waterfall visible only in monsoon, 10 kilometres above the dam. Nearby, the 9th-century Amruteshwar Temple, a Hemadpanthi stone shrine, is tucked away near the main Bhandardara village. Weekend visitors from Mumbai and Pune book a Bhandardara resort or enjoy Bhandardara camping for 2-day fort treks. Winter nights can be very cold.
