Matrimandir
About
The Auroville Matrimandir is the geographical and spiritual heart of Auroville Pondicherry, a structure central to what is special about Auroville. Constructed between 1971 and 2008, the 36-metre golden sphere's interior houses meditation rooms and the Inner Chamber, which holds the world's largest optical-grade crystal (70 cm). Sunlight is focused onto the crystal, diffusing light for silent meditation in a space free of any religious symbolism.
