Ajmer

Ajmer is a historic city in central Rajasthan, founded in the 7th century. Its capture in 1192 began a new era of rule in north India. Today, what is Ajmer famous for? Primarily, it's the site of the revered Ajmer Dargah, the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, which attracts millions of pilgrims of all faiths annually, especially during the Urs festival. Beyond the dargah, the Ajmer city boasts the Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra mosque, the 12th-century Ana Sagar lake, and the imposing Taragarh Fort. It also serves as the main base for visiting nearby Pushkar (14 km).
