Attraction
Independence Square (Independence Memorial Hall)
Independence Square, officially known as Independence Memorial Hall, commemorates Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule in 1948. Designed in traditional Kandyan architectural style, the monument resembles a grand audience hall supported by intricately carved stone pillars. The structure stands dignified yet open, surrounded by landscaped gardens and wide pathways. Beneath the hall sits a small museum detailing Sri Lanka’s journey to independence. At the front, a statue of D. S. Senanayake, the country’s first Prime Minister, anchors the space historically. Unlike crowded city landmarks, Independence Square feels calm and reflective. Early mornings bring joggers and cyclists, while evenings attract families and students enjoying the open space.

Enjoy your first authentic Sri Lankan dining experience featuring rice and curry, traditional hoppers, and fresh seafood specialties. Overnight Stay Colombo
