In case you yearn for untamed beauty, Wayanad is the place to be. This location in Kerala's Western Ghats gives the impression of nature turned all the way up. You should also see the ancient pictographs at Edakkal Caves and get up the Chembra Peak to a heart, shaped lake (yes, it is really the shape).
