Shirdi

Shirdi is a small town in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district at 520 meters, about 240 km east of Mumbai, and the state’s most-visited pilgrimage center, drawing an average of 50,000 to 100,000 devotees daily. The town’s identity revolves entirely around Sai Baba of Shirdi, the 19th-century mystic-saint who lived here from 1858 until his passing in 1918. His samadhi (tomb shrine) forms the heart of the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust complex, a vast temple precinct that functions round the clock, with continuous prasad distribution, multiple shrines, and accommodation facilities for tens of thousands of pilgrims. Sai Baba is regarded by devotees as a divine incarnation or manifestation of higher consciousness, and his syncretic identity, blending Hindu and Muslim traditions makes this one of India’s most inclusive spiritual centers.
