Khajjiar

Khajjiar is a 1,951-meter saucer-shaped meadow in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, located about 24 kilometers from Dalhousie and reached through the cedar-rich Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. Widely known as the “Mini Switzerland of India,” a title reinforced by a 1992 visit from the Swiss ambassador whose marker stone still stands at the meadow’s edge, Khajjiar offers a rare landscape. The perfectly flat grassland is encircled by dense deodar forest, with a small lake and the 12th-century Khajji Nag temple at its center, making it one of the top places to visit in Khajjiar. Seasonal activities such as horse riding, zorbing, and paragliding are among the most popular things to do in Khajjiar, especially during peak travel months. The meadow also attracts a steady flow of visitors on a Khajjiar trip from nearby destinations like Dalhousie, Dharamshala, and Chamba, many of whom come for short picnics and day outings. The blend of thick cedar forest, open grassland, and a calm lakeside setting gives Khajjiar sightseeing a distinctly Alpine feel. Despite the crowds in summer, it remains one of the most unique landscapes to explore.
