Auli Ropeway
About
The 4.1 kilometers long Joshimath–Auli ropeway is among the longest cable car systems in Asia, connecting the pilgrimage town of Joshimath at 1,875 meters with Auli at 3,010 meters. The 20-minute ride climbs over 10 supporting towers, offering panoramic views that define Auli sightseeing, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Mana Peak. Built by GMVN in 1994, it remains a vital link for Auli tourism, especially when roads close due to snow.

Highlights
What makes this place special

Top Tower Viewpoint
The highest tower on the ropeway offers the widest panorama, making it one of the top attractions in Auli. Here, Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Hathi Ghoda peaks wrap around the cabin on three sides.

Forest Canopy Crossing
The cable car glides over old oak and rhododendron forest, where in spring the canopy below turns bright red with blooms, adding to the charm of Auli tourism.

Lower Terminus
The lower terminus sits beside Joshimath’s old bazaar, a pilgrimage town that serves as the winter seat of the Badrinath deity, often included in an Auli travel guide.
