The Sam Sand Dunes, located 42 km from Jaisalmer, are the Thar Desert's most spectacular dune formations — towering golden sand mountains that stretch to the horizon. This is where most desert safari experiences happen: camel rides across the undulating dunes at sunset, jeep safaris through the desert scrub, and overnight camping under one of the clearest night skies in India (minimal light pollution makes the Milky Way visible with the naked eye).
