High altitude glacial lake

About

Tsomgo Lake looks like a massive glowing sapphire dropped right in the middle of giant barren mountains. Sitting proudly at an altitude of over twelve thousand feet, this spectacular glacial lake changes its brilliant colors with the changing seasons. The local Sikkimese people consider the deep water highly sacred and monks often study the changing colors to predict the future. The journey to the lake thrills you just as much as the destination itself. You drive up incredibly steep winding cliff roads surrounded entirely by thick white snow during the winter. You stand by the icy rocky shore, listening to the prayer flags fluttering in the freezing wind, and realize you have reached the wild untamed edge of the high Himalayas.
