St Paul's Church & Diu Museum
About
St Paul’s Church, built in 1610, is the only functioning Catholic church in Diu and one of the finest examples of Portuguese Baroque architecture in Diu India. A highlight of Diu tourism, the church stands as a reminder of the island’s long colonial past in Diu Gujarat. Its intricately carved altar screen, crafted in shellac coated gilded wood and imported from Europe, is among the most impressive ecclesiastical artworks in the region. Not far from Diu Fort and within easy Diu distance from the main town, the nearby Diu Museum is housed in the former 16th century Church of St Thomas. Together, they form a compact heritage circuit that contrasts beautifully with a relaxed afternoon at Diu beach.
