Raja's Seat was the favourite sunset viewpoint of the Coorg kings — a landscaped garden platform at the edge of Madikeri overlooking misty valleys and layers of ridges receding to the west. The adjacent Madikeri Fort, built in the 17th century by Mudduraja and expanded by Tipu Sultan, has the royal tombs (Gaddige) of the Haleri kings and a small museum. A miniature train in the Raja's Seat gardens makes it family-friendly.

What makes this place special

The landscaped viewpoint where the Coorg kings watched the sun set over the ridges — still the most popular sunset spot in town.

The tombs of the Haleri dynasty kings — small, atmospheric stone structures with Hindu-Islamic hybrid architecture unusual for a Hindu royal family.
