Nohkalikai Falls is India’s tallest single-drop waterfall at 340 meters, where the Likai River plunges dramatically over the plateau edge into a striking turquoise plunge pool below. The name is linked to a tragic Khasi legend about a widow named Likai, who is believed to have leapt to her death at this site. This folklore adds emotional depth to one of the most famous places to visit in Cherrapunji. Visitors can enjoy the waterfall from viewpoints located at the top, which offer wide panoramic views of the valley and cliffside. Reaching the base requires a steep descent of about three hours and is not recommended for casual travelers. The waterfall changes dramatically with the seasons. During the monsoon, the flow is powerful and spectacular, but heavy mist often limits visibility. In winter, the flow is lower, but the views become much clearer, making it ideal for photography and sightseeing.
