Bir Billing

The Bir landing ground is a broad grassy meadow at the edge of the village in Bir Billing where tandem flights from Billing land. Cafes, food stalls, and small shops ring the field, and spectators gather every afternoon to watch 40 to 60 pilots descend from the sky. Even without flying, it remains one of the most visually dynamic places in Himachal, with blue canopies spiraling down, landings happening every few minutes, and the Dhauladhar range rising dramatically in the background, making it a key part of Bir Billing sightseeing.

Chokling Monastery in the Tibetan Colony of Bir Billing is the most atmospheric of the four main gompas in the village. It is a Nyingma school monastery founded in 1966 by Tibetan exiles who re-established their practice here after 1959. The main hall is filled with detailed murals, a large gilded Buddha, and a row of brass butter lamps. The monastery remain open to visitors for morning and evening prayers, making it one of the most meaningful places to visit in Bir Billing.
