Must-visit places and experiences

Bhimtal Lake is a C-shaped freshwater lake 1,674 metres long and 447 metres wide, with a small 1,000-sq-metre island at its centre, making it one of the top places to visit in Bhimtal. The island has a small aquarium, an open-air restaurant, and sweeping views across the full lake, accessed only by boat, and among the most popular things to do in Bhimtal. The lake's eastern shore has the main promenade, while the western and southern shores are quieter and lined by pine forest, ideal for relaxed Bhimtal sightseeing and peaceful Bhimtal holidays.

Victoria Dam, built in 1883 by the British, regulates the outflow of Bhimtal Lake and forms the southern edge of the town, making it one of the key places to visit in Bhimtal. Walking across the dam offers the best full-lake views and is among the most scenic things to do in Bhimtal, leading to a quiet promenade with cafés on the lake’s western shore. The dam area remains one of the most peaceful spots for relaxed Bhimtal sightseeing.

March to June and September–November are ideal, making it the best time to visit Bhimtal for pleasant weather and clear lake views. Winter is cold but crisp, while monsoon brings greenery along with occasional road issues.
Kathgodam (22 km) is the nearest rail hub, and Pantnagar Airport (55 km) the nearest airport, making access easy for a smooth Bhimtal trip. There is also good road connectivity from Delhi (310 km).
Different, not better. Bhimtal is quieter with a larger lake and fewer crowds, ideal for relaxed Bhimtal holidays, while Nainital offers more hotels and attractions. Many travellers include both as part of their Bhimtal tour packages.
