The best time to visit Assam is between November to April. Winters (November-February) are cool and pleasant, perfect for wildlife safaris at Kaziranga. Spring (March–April) is equally vibrant, as the state celebrates the Rongali Bihu festival amidst blooming orchids. It is generally advised to avoid the monsoon (June–September), as it often brings heavy rainfall and flooding along the Brahmaputra.
Assam is very safe for tourists. The state has a well-developed tourism infrastructure, especially around hubs like Guwahati, Kaziranga, and the tea regions. The local people are known for being incredibly warm and hospitable, ensuring that your Assam holidays are both comfortable and welcoming.
Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and and one of the top attractions in Assam. It is home to two-thirds of the world's one-horned Indian rhinoceros. Beyond the rhinos, it also has the highest density of tigers among protected areas in the world, along with wild elephants, water buffalo, and over 480 bird species.
Guwahati has the main airport (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport) with flights from all major Indian cities. Guwahati is also connected by rail. If your Assam tour packages are focused on Kaziranga, you can fly into Jorhat (60 km away) or enjoy a scenic 5-hour drive from Guwahati.
Majuli is the world's largest river island, located in the Brahmaputra River. It's the cultural capital of Assamese civilisation, home to 22 ancient Vaishnavite monasteries (sattras) that preserve 500-year-old traditions of dance, music, and mask-making.
