Climbing the steep, rugged wooden steps of the Grouse Grind offers one of the most intense, rewarding, and authentic outdoor fitness challenges in Canada. Famously nicknamed "Mother Nature’s Staircase," this iconic hiking trail climbs 800 vertical meters (2,624 feet) over a mere 2.9 kilometers up the face of Grouse Mountain. The trail consists of 2,830 hand-carved stone and wooden stairs winding through a dense, towering forest of coastal pines, offering a challenging workout that is a favorite ritual for local fitness enthusiasts.

What makes this hike highly rewarding is the incredible sense of athletic achievement and the spectacular payoff at the summit. As you emerge from the canopy, you are treated to panoramic views of downtown Vancouver, the sparkling Salish Sea, and the distant Gulf Islands. At the peak, you can explore the mountain chalet, visit a resident grizzly bear habitat, and enjoy refreshments at the restaurant. It is a classic Vancouver experience that blends rugged athletic endeavor with spectacular alpine scenery.

One fun fact people love:

The fastest official record for completing the Grouse Grind is an astonishing 23 minutes and 48 seconds, while the average hiker takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
