Sakya Tangyud is a small monastery in Old Kaza, one of only a handful of Sakya-school gompas in India. The current building retains original murals and hosts regular prayer sessions. It is quieter than other Spiti monasteries, offering a good introduction to the Sakya tradition, a key cultural sight in Kaza.

What makes this place special

A compact hall with preserved murals and a seated Buddha—one of the few active Sakya monasteries for those exploring where is Kaza in India.

The walk to the monastery through Old Kaza's narrow lanes is a glimpse of traditional Spiti village life, a must-do in Kaza.
