Hallstatt Beinhaus (Bone House)
About
Located inside the Michael’s Chapel next to the Catholic parish church, this unique Beinhaus houses over six hundred beautifully hand-painted human skulls. Due to the tiny mountain cemetery's limited space, graves were traditionally opened after a few decades to make room for new burials.
