Must-visit places and experiences

Chitkul is a traditional Kinnauri village of stone-and-wood houses whose flat roofs are weighted with river stones, a design perfect for Chitkul in winter. The Mathi Devi temple is the spiritual centre a 500-year-old wooden pagoda. The best of all things to do in Chitkul is simply walking through the lanes on your Chitkul trip: seeing potato fields, drying racks of apples, and old village elders in traditional woven caps.

The Baspa runs through Chitkul in a wide, shallow channel over smooth stones. A key part of any Chitkul trip is a walk below the village to a viewpoint framing the river valley and snow peaks. This riverside offers one of the most serene things to do in Chitkul: quiet afternoons, photography, and picnics.
